What a rug consultation does
A rug is the largest continuous colour surface in most living rooms. It shapes how bright a room feels, how warm it sounds and how large it seems. That is exactly why the choice is hard to make on a screen alone: a pattern that looks calm in a photograph can dominate a room — and a colour that works in the showroom can turn under different light.
A consultation with us therefore starts not with the rug but with the room: floor plan, light, flooring, existing furniture, intended effect. Only from there does it follow which collection, which size and which material are candidates at all.
Three routes, depending on where you are
- Online or by phone
- For first conversations and quick questions: we settle size, construction and budget range before you travel anywhere. Often that alone narrows seven collections down to two.
- At the gallery in Zurich
- The collections are laid out at Uraniastrasse 33. Here you see differences no photograph carries: how a knot catches raking light, how wool, silk and alpaca feel, how differently the same shade reads in two materials.
- At your home
- The most honest test. We bring the shortlist to you, lay it out in the room, and you live with it for days in your own light. What still appeals then will still appeal in ten years.
What you can prepare
None of this is required — but it speeds the conversation up considerably:
- The room dimensions and, if you have one, a floor plan.
- Two or three photos of the room in daylight.
- Wall colour and flooring — both determine which tones work.
- Whether the rug should reach under the furniture or lie free.
Why there are no prices here
No product page of ours shows a price, and that is deliberate. For a hand-knotted rug, size, material and knot density set the price — up to 1.5 million knots per square metre. Two rugs of the same design can differ by a multiple. A figure without those three facts would not be information but an assertion. Tell us about the room and you will get a figure that holds.
