When bespoke is the right route

The room sets the size

A standard format rarely fits a room that was not built for it. Bays, fireplaces, open transitions, stair landings — as soon as the architecture has a mind of its own, the standard size becomes a compromise.

The colour has to be right

When timber tone, stone, textiles and lighting are all tuned to each other, the rug is the last element that cannot be slightly off. We knot in custom colourways matched to your material samples.

The shape is not rectangular

Round, oval, semicircular, multi-part or following a floor plan — the knotting technique is not bound to a rectangle.

The process

Six steps from idea to installation.

  1. 01

    Conversation and measuring

    We discuss use, spatial effect and budget. For exact dimensions we come to you — with a template where the floor plan is complex.

  2. 02

    Design

    You receive a scaled design with pattern, format and colour distribution. Changes are unlimited at this stage.

  3. 03

    Yarn and colour samples

    We set colourways on original yarn and send them to you. They are judged in the room and in daylight, not in a showroom.

  4. 04

    Approval

    Only once design, size, material and colour are approved in writing does the commission go to the workshop.

  5. 05

    Knotting

    The rug is made on a loom set up specifically for it. We document progress on request.

  6. 06

    Finishing and delivery

    Washing, shearing, edge work, final inspection. Then delivery and installation — with underlay and slip protection if required.

What is possible

Sizes
From small formats to room-filling rugs. Large dimensions are knotted seamlessly, not assembled.
Shapes
Rectangular, square, round, oval, semicircular, multi-part, or freely following a floor plan.
Colours
Custom colourways from your reference — a material sample, a colour fan or a photograph of the room is enough to start.
Materials
Virgin wool, merino, natural silk, bamboo silk, mohair, alpaca and blends of these.
Qualities
From robust everyday density to master quality with up to 1.5 million knots per square metre.
Details
Pile height, edge finish, fringes or closed edge, relief texture, woven-in signature.

Timeline

A hand-knotted rug takes months, not weeks — knotting time cannot be shortened without losing quality. Design and sampling usually take a few weeks; the knotting itself depends on size, density and material. For projects with a fixed handover date we plan backwards from the move-in date and confirm a binding date when the order is placed.

For contract projects with tender deadlines we provide a binding schedule on request.

What determines the price

The price of a bespoke rug comes down to four things: area, knot density, material, and the effort involved in custom colours or shapes. Density weighs heaviest, because it directly determines knotting time. After the design conversation we quote a fixed price — not a range that moves later.

For planning practices we supply tender texts, material data sheets, reference lists and CAD drawings. Sampling is delivered directly to your desk.
